4 2024 Romance Movies We’ve Enjoyed
Now that it’s 2024, romance movies have featured a more diverse selection of relationships and voices that used to be an afterthought in movie history.
Let’s redefine romance with some movies we’ve enjoyed this year!
Challengers
Challengers may bend the genre, but it qualifies as a sports thriller, psychological drama, and love story between three people. The tale of Challengers is a relationship between three people—it’s precisely as Zendaya’s Tashi says in the movie. The field where everything gets settled is none other than the tennis court. It’s the playing field where all three work out their pent-up aggression, lust, and desire for one another.
If you’re excited about the same thrill that Tashi has with tennis, you might enjoy trying out Jili games! You can usually play them in an online casino (make sure local authorities verify it), and they have fun and colorful visuals. They’re also easy to play, especially on the go, as long as you have a stable internet connection.
Love Lies Bleeding
When Lou (Kristen Stewart) is first introduced, she is cleaning a clogged toilet; this sets the stage for the mess in Love Lies Bleeding. The film is about a steroid-using bodybuilder in a remote town that keeps people trapped within violent cycles. When Lou meets Jackie (Katy O’
Brian), the match is lit, and sparks sure go off!
Comparisons to Thelma and Louise are hard to avoid. When violence taints the relationship between Lou and Jackie, the sparks turn to crackling flames, forcing the characters to turn to violence. Director Rose Glass pulls many punches here—as expected of her skill and vision.
The Fall Guy
Fresh from Deadpool 2 and Bulle Train, David Leitch directs this movie about a stuntman who has to find a missing movie star, investigate, and work on his relationship with the love of his life. It works as a love letter to stunt performers within the movie business.
It’s enjoyable. Instead of focusing on the big stars in movies, The Fall Guy is more about the people behind the cameras. Reynolds’ easygoing charm reminds us why he was cast as Ken in the Barbie movie and sells the role of stuntman Colt Seaver.
The Idea of You
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine star in this steamy celebrity age-gap romance. Solène (Hathaway) is hitting 40 and crushing on the vocalist of her daughter’s favorite band. However, she is still suffering from the trauma of her ex-husband’s infidelity and the inevitable divorce. Hayes (Galitzine) is aged up by four years from the book, but the narrative makes their age gap and differing statuses in life the primary conflict.
The romantic comedy highlights the importance of sex to a relationship and the nuances of how we interact, which can help define a relationship. It’s one of the more memorable and well-written romantic comedies, and it’s well-acted. Galitzine is more believable as a rockstar here than as a prince, and Anne Hathaway always delivers.
Wrapping Up
Romance has evolved with time and the talents of veteran and new filmmakers. Many have bent genres or lived up to the romantic experience that romantic comedies promise to provide. We love that we’ve explored broader ideas and themes in the romance genre, and we can’t wait to see more! Happy watching!
