5 Ways to Incorporate a Pop of Color into Your Quality Summer Makeup Routine

Marc Jacobs calls makeup the “finishing touch” or final accessory. You can feel more polished and put together when you’re wearing makeup that fits your style and personality. The natural look is a popular way to wear makeup, but summer is the perfect season to amp up your makeup game with new colors and shades. Make a statement this season with a new shade of eyeshadow or a brighter lip color that might be a little outside of your comfort zone, but one that makes you stand out where ever you go. Here are five ways to incorporate a pop of colour into your quality summer makeup routine.

Bold Eyeshadow

Bold eyeshadow shades are back in vogue, but you’ll want to select an eyeshadow palette with complementary shades to blend the hues. Use the brightest color on your lower lid. Blend it with a darker shade in the crease of the eye. Use a lighter shade for under the brows, but again, blend it well with the other colors. Limit the use of the brightest color so you look modern and fresh.

A Statement Lip

Adding color to your lips is a time-honored makeup solution, but if you’re just branching out to new colors for your lips, it can be daunting. Start by applying the brighter color to the center of your lips. Blend to the edges with your fingers or a lip brush to diffuse the brightness until you get used to the added color. Use a lip crayon to outline your lips and blend with your new color. If you’re not ready to go with a full statement lip, use lip gloss to add a sheen to your lips with a soft kiss of color.

Colored Mascara

Black may be the traditional color for mascara, but you can find even more colors today. Blue, purple and green can make your eyelashes stand out with a surprising pop of color. If your coloring is darker, you may want to start with a black layer of mascara, then add color on top of that. You’ll want to think about your skin and eye tones when choosing mascara color. Blue complements fairer skin very well, while green can go well with skin tones that are cool.

Waterproof Eyeliner

Adding a little color around your eyes can make them stand out, even if you don’t wear eyeshadow. Eyelines come in a wider variety of colors today, so you can choose one that complements your eye color. Go with orange or bronze shades if you have blue eyes. Green eyes can handle shades of red, from maroon to burgundy. Brown and hazel eyes can handle a wide range of colors.

Nail Polish

Although nail polish doesn’t go on your face, it’s still a nice way to add a pop of color to your look. There are hundreds of shades in bright, bold colors that you would never find in your favorite facial makeup section, so it’s easy to find something that fits your mood. Choose a few colors that you like to experiment with to see what looks best with your skin tones.

Makeup is a fun way to express yourself. Find your new favorites for summer when you shop now.
